The Tesla-Roadster marks the point at which electrically driven vehicles finally freed themselves from the "backyard garage" image. Since 2007, this 185 kW (252 hp) Roadster demonstrates that an electric drive can be at once practical and still fulfil all the demands made on a "conventional" sports car. This has become possible mainly on account of tremendous improvements in storage technology.
