Following numerous activities related to the subject of energy, the Deutsches Technikmuseum is launching neuStart - Mobility without oil?, a huge special exhibition for the year 2007 dealing with the future of automobility. In 1,000 sqm of floorspace, the exhibition addresses one of the most discussed topics of our time - environmentally compatible solutions for securing individual mobility on a global scale.
How did the 20th century become the era of mineral oil based mobility and how did the personal locomotion of people develop during this period? What were the reasons that brought about the current discussion on alternative energies in transportation? What concepts and technologies are available at present and what could the future of mobility, and especially of automobiles, look like? Why has there always been such an emotional relationship with the automobile and how will this develop in the future? The exhibition will investigate these questions in an unconventional manner and point out alternatives to visitors which enable resource-saving and eco-friendly mobility even today.
Starting from two alternative future scenarios from the year 2032, neuStart - Mobility without oil? offers a historical review of pivotable moments in the age of oil: Its beginning in around 1900, the development of European mass motorisation in the 1960s and, above all, the period around the year 2007, which marks a turning point in energy and transportation policies. For all these epochs, there is a special focus on three essential aspects: Car fetish, Mobility without oil and The mobile city.
A filling station is the central exhibition design element. The various themes are staged at typical and well-familiar filling station components, such as the drive-up or car wash. The counter in the sales room serves as reception, time machine and central starting point for the visitors. Here they are transferred into the year 2032 - the future of mobility. The exhibition's conceptual design was developed by Reiner Schipporeit (project manager) and the neuStart project team.
A comprehensive supporting programme, consisting of public events, discussions and symposia with high-profile representatives from business, politics and science in attendance, is expected to take up the current debate on shaping the future of individual mobility and advance it further. The newsletter will provide you regularly with information about current dates of events.
In addition to standard guided tours in English and German, we also offer tours that are specially tailored to suit students age 11 and above.
